What’s Not Attractive in a Candidate? Entitlement.

Unless you are one of the few people on earth who can effectively do the job I’m recruiting for… don’t ever send me a cover letter like this:

My name is [Naive Entry-Level Candidate] and I’d like to submit my resume in consideration for the Marketing Manager Position. I’ve worked at a marketing firm during the last 2 years and I’m well acclimated with the space, vendors, partners, and marketing channels.  I’m looking for:
  • 12k a month Salary
  • Half months salary upon signing my contract
  • Full Benefits, Healthcare, Dental
  • 10% Commission for every new client signed that I bring in…
  • 10 business days of Vacation
  • Work from home 2 days a month
  • Expense account – This is to entertain clients, prospects, and for travel
  • After hitting $300,000 in revenue: a company credit card for expenses
